Pacquiao defeats De La Hoya
Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao had shocked the whole world once again by retiring via TKO the legendary Oscar "Golden Boy" De La Hoya in the 8th round of their 'The Dream Match' event in Las Vegas. The Pacman and the Golden Boy both trained hard for the fight but there could only be one winner this time. Pacquiao had dominated all the first seven rounds until De La Hoya call it quits in the 8th.
Who will be the next for Manny? Will it be Ricky Hatton, or will Floyd Mayweather decide to go back in the ring?

De la Hoya: 'It'll be a disaster if I don't KO Pacquiao'
But not for de la Hoya. He expects to knock out Manny Pacquiao.
De la Hoya hinted in a media conference call on Monday (Tuesday morning, Manila time) that he is preparing for a quick ending - no more, no less.
"I will be extremely, extremely disappointed if this fight doesn't end in a knockout," de la Hoya said. "It will be a total disaster."
Just last week, de la Hoya couldn't be counted on to make a serious prediction as to how long the fight will last.
He sounded either sarcastic (De la Hoya's response to Freddie Roach's nine-round forecast? "We'll catch Pacquiao in five so we don't get to nine.") Or plain uninterested ("It may end in the seventh because that's my lucky number.").

Lesnar destroys a legend!
Brock Lesnar had defeated Randy Couture via stoppage in the 2nd round of their main event bout for the UFC 91 in Las Vegas.
The first round went out fine with changes of punches and takedowns. In the second round, Lesnar's fist caught the chin of Couture that made the latter fell on the canvas; Lesnar didn't miss the opporunity and followed Couture with fast strikes until the referee stopped the fight.

Calzaghe: Another legend killer!
To defeat the enemy you have to be like the enemy. That's what Joe Calzaghe did during his fight with the legendary Roy Jones, Jr and came out victorious and still undefeated. Calzaghe fought like the style of Jones.
Calzaghe retained his Light Heavyweight title beating down Jones via unanimous decision with three judges scoring the bout 118-109.
Jones dropped Calzaghe in round one with a glancing right hand and landed some clean shots in the second. But Calzaghe began to outwork Jones in the third and showed disdain for Jones' power by keeping his hands down between quick flurries.
Jones, Jr. announced that this will be his last fight for his career, or is it?
King Abraham defeats Marquez
"He was very tough," said Abraham. "He's a very good boxer, but we're also not bad. I don't understand it. He gave up too early. I am sad about that. I wanted to step on the gas from the sixth round, but unfortunately it didn't work. He disappointed the audience.....I'm ready to box against Felix Sturm!"
A disappointed Marquez stated, "I tried, but he was very fast and each shot was precise. When the cut happened, I simply couldn't continue. I could see I was going to lose. He's a strong champion and there was nothing I could do. It was also self-preservation. I have children, a family and I'm a commentator. I have a future." It was the eighth successful defense by Abraham, who may have suffered a rib injury in the bout.

Rahman vs. Klitschko: Hot!
"Klitschko will regret he chose me to replace Povetkin," said former champion Hasim "The Rock" Rahman, who is the new opponent for IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on December 13 at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany. "Like Lennox Lewis, I will knock him out and take those belts. And then, I am going to beat his brother Vitali, too." On the other hand, Klitschko stated that he won't be intimidated by 'The Rock.' "He is always talking big," stated Wladimir. "I know that back from a fight when he was supposed to meet my brother Vitali. But that does not impress me." Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of Klitschko Management, added "This fight is of much more interest worldwide and the marketing for it is much easier, too, than it would have been with [Alexander] Povetkin."

Humberto "Zorrita" Soto (45-7-2, 28 KOs) won the WBC interim super featherweight championship with a tenth round TKO over Gamaliel "Platano" Díaz (23-8-2, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Coliseo Centenario in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. Soto dropped Diaz in round one and after Diaz was deducted two points for continuous holding by referee Lawrence Cole in round ten Diaz' corner decided not to send him out for round eleven, much to the disappointment of the crowd. This was for the same belt Soto failed to when when he was DQ'd against Francisco Lorenzo in June. The WBC refused to recognize Lorenzo and this time Soto was victorious.

Kimbo Slice fell in 14 seconds!
The legend of Kimbo Slice fell down just like the Wall of Jericho. The great brawler, Kimbo, was knock down by MMA veteran Seth "Silver" Petruzelli within 14 seconds. 14seconds?!
The phenomena of Kimbo had been shut down by a young MMA fighter Petruzelli. In the first round, Slice was knocked down by a straight punch to the mouth. Once down Petruzelli, using speed and power, attacked Kimbo with machine-gun punches until the ref stopped the fight. It's all over.
Until now I still can hardly believed what happened on that fight; but as they say, in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, anything can happen.

Mayorga KOd by Mosley
In a junior middleweight clash between former world champions, Shane Mosley (45-5, 38 KOs) scored an entertaining twelfth round KO over Ricardo Mayorga (28-7-1, 22 KOs) on Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Mayorga was more effective early, but Shane began to figure him out in round three. Round six was a big round for Mosley as Mayorga invited him to take a number of shots and Mosley obliged. The second half of the fight was more of an ugly brawl, but in the twelfth, Mosley exploded, flooring Mayorga twice to impressively end it. Time was 2:59. After the 11th round, the judges at ringside at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., had the fight scored 105-104 Mayorga (Pat Russell), 105-104 Mosley (Nelson Vasquez) and 107-102 Mosley (Tony Crebs).

Pacquiao-De La Hoya, the $100M fight
It's on!!!
The Golden Boy will fight the boxing's pound-for-pound king, the Pacman, in an event that could be the biggest boxing match this year.
It will be De La Hoya’s farewell fight and Pacquiao’s biggest ever.
The news:
Barring last-minute hitches, Oscar De La Hoya, boxing’s box office superstar in the past decade, will take on Manny Pacquiao, boxing’s hottest commodity today, in what promises to be a $100-million welterweight bout on Dec. 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“I have agreed in principle to accept the Dec. 6 fight against Oscar De La Hoya. This will be the toughest test in my boxing career because of the reach and height advantage of my esteemed opponent, aside from his great boxing skills,” Pacquiao said.
“This fight, however, will not be a walk in the park for Oscar De La Hoya. The boxing fans will see the same fire and intensity they have witnessed in my previous fights.”
Pacquiao, currently the World Boxing Council’s lightweight king, brimmed with confidence.
“I will frustrate the desire of Oscar De La Hoya to avenge the defeats of the great Mexican boxers who lost to me,” the Filipino ring idol said. “I am dedicating this forthcoming fight to my countrymen and all the boxing fans all over the world.”
“Don’t worry,” Pacquiao said with a laugh over the phone when asked what he thought of his opponent, an American of Mexican descent, who is also known as boxing’s “Golden Boy.”
At 5-foot-10 inches, De La Hoya stands four inches taller than Pacquiao and has a 6-inch reach advantage over the Filipino.
But at 29, Pacquiao is six years younger.
Money talks
The AP’s sources said De La Hoya’s long-stalled talks with Pacquiao were recently revived when the two sides found an acceptable way to split the possible $100 million in revenue from what’s certain to be boxing’s most lucrative fight since De La Hoya’s split-decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year.
The negotiations hit a snag last week.
The fighters’ camps argued over the split of the purse, with De La Hoya angling for 70 percent while Pacquiao pursued a 40-percent cut. The expected fight receipts would include a projected 2-million-plus pay-per-view buys, over which the two camps also reportedly wrangled.
How the impasse was resolved wasn’t immediately clear, but Inquirer sources said both camps had either agreed on a 65-35 deal, or on a 70-30 split, which De La Hoya had dangled to include a side deal that would sweeten the pot for the Filipino.
$15M for Pacquiao
It hasn’t been an easy match to make. Both boxers must make physical sacrifices for the 66.5-kilogram (147-pound) bout, with De La Hoya dropping down to welterweight for the first time in seven years while Pacquiao bulks up to the heaviest weight of his career by far.
At any rate, observers believe the fight could easily rival the blockbuster encounter between De La Hoya and Mayweather last year which reportedly grossed $120 million, including the pay-per-view buys which generated a record $2.4 million.
If the fight earns $100 million, Pacquiao stands to get his biggest paycheck ever—estimated at $15 million.
Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach also said a victory would open the floodgates for even bigger fights for the Filipino icon.
The two boxers earlier agreed to fight at a catch weight of 147 pounds and use eight-ounce gloves.
Size advantage
De La Hoya would be banking on his size but he will have to shed pounds and thus give up some strength to make the 147-pound weight. The 1992 Barcelona Olympic lightweight gold medalist fought heaviest at 160 lb against Felix Sturm for the WBO middleweight title.
The last time De La Hoya (39-5-0, 30 KOs) fought as a welterweight was in 2001. In his last fight, against Steve Forbes last May, he weighed in at 150 lb but entered the ring at 154 lb.
De La Hoya has won six titles in six different weight classes and has taken on practically every fighter who has donned the mythical best pound-for-pound crown.
However, he lost to the four biggest names he has encountered—Shane Mosley twice, Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins and Mayweather Jr.
Roach said speed and youth would be the weapons of Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs), who started his career at 106 lb. He has won four titles in four different categories, snatching the lightweight title from David Diaz last June.
Last fight
De La Hoya repeatedly has said he won’t fight again after this year.
After a proposed rematch with Mayweather in September was scuttled by Mayweather’s retirement, De La Hoya has struggled to find a suitable opponent for his final bout before turning his full attention to his burgeoning promotions company and other business interests.
De La Hoya now thinks he has his man in Pacquiao, widely considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter. Pacquiao hasn’t fought since stopping Diaz in his first fight as a lightweight.
Pacquiao will have to move up to welterweight to fight De La Hoya, a surprising weight surge for a fighter who began his career as a minimum weight boxer.
Hand speed
Roach has said his fighter won’t have trouble maintaining his peerless hand speed at that weight, since Pacquiao routinely puts on 4 kilos (10 pounds) or more in the 24 hours between weighing in for his bouts and actually stepping in the ring.
De La Hoya beat Forbes by unanimous decision in his most recent fight, but has won just three of his six bouts over the past five years.
He considered Miguel Cotto and Sergio Mora for his farewell fight, but realized the most lucrative challenge would be Pacquiao, the Filipino hero who has won eight straight fights since early 2005.

No go for Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight.
Manny Pacquiao has decided to stay at lightweight and defend his WBC 135-lb crown after turning down an offer by Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) for a Dec. 6 fight in Las Vegas, lawyer Franklin Gacal said in a statement released early Thursday morning. "I have been informed that Oscar De La Hoya is firm with the 70-30 revenue sharing and won't budge in to the 60-40 split we have counter-offered. I find the offer of GBP unconscionable hence unacceptable. It would have been an honor to fight De La Hoya on his last fight capping a very illustrious boxing career but under the circumstances, the option left is to move on. I have already made specific instructions to my lawyer to start negotiating with Bob Arum for my next fight with any possible opponent at 135 lbs," said Pacquiao. Gacal said what Pacquiao wanted was a fair share of the mega fight and apparently, Oscar De La Hoya is making an offer that he knows is unacceptable," Gacal told fightnews.com.It is certain that Pacquiao will face Humberto Soto of Mexico sometime in November in Las Vegas.

UFC: BJ Penn vs GSP?
Georges "Rush" St-Pierre is still the undisputed UFC Welterweight Champion!
GSP is still on top but BJ Penn is saying something.
After the fight of GSP and Jon Fitch, and the former was announced as the winner, BJ Penn entered the Octagon and congratulated the "Rush" and eventually challenged him. A very good way to be in the spotlight.
Dana White, president of the UFC, commented on the possibility of current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre meeting current UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn. He claimed that both parties are interested and will work out the details soon. If the fight does take place, Penn would move up in weight to challenge St. Pierre and he will most likely not vacate his 155 pound championship. The fight could take place as early as December. White also said that multiple projects are in the works to hold UFC events worldwide, with the Philippines as the country most likely to hold an event.

UFC 87: GSP Retains Title
The fight was completely dominated by GSP. On the first round St-Pierre had immediately knocked down Fitch with a big right hand. The second round was rather slow but both fighters had connected some punches. For the last three rounds, Fitch had some beating from GSP; jabs, elbows, punches and kicks went thru Fitch's defense.
The fight can be considered the best for Jon Fitch; though he lost, he had still displayed a heart of a fighter.
After the bout UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn entered the cage and congratulated St-Pierre on his victory and both St-Pierre and Penn expressed their interest in fighting one another, effectively setting up a fight between the UFC’s 155-pound and 170-pound champions which will likely take place at the UFC’s December 27th year-end event.
UFC 87: Lesnar wins over Herring
The next two rounds were rather slow but Lesnar dominated constantly keeping Herring on the canvas. Heath received pounding and knee strikes from Brock until the bout ended. All three judges score the bout 30-26, declaring Brock Lesnar the unanimous decision winner.

OLYMPICS: U.S. boxer Russell will miss games
At Friday morning's Olympic Boxing weigh-in, Russell was disqualified from the boxing tournament for being one pound over the 119-pound bantamweight limit . Russell, 20, from Capitol Heights, MD, was expected to make his Olympic debut on Tuesday, August 12 in the preliminary rounds of the bantamweight class.
U.S. coach Dan Campbell said Russell, a two-time national champion, was found unconscious and severely dehydrated early Friday morning by his roommate, light flyweight Luis Yanez.Medical personnel at the athletes' village rehydrated Russell, but he wasn't healthy enough to participate in Friday's weigh-in. Russell was resting Friday after failing in a dangerous final effort to reach the limit.
The team must move on without Russell, perhaps its most charismatic and exciting fighter. Ever since he was a 2-year-old prodigy putting on shadowboxing shows at fight clubs in Washington D.C., Russell has dreamed of wearing an Olympic medal even more than a pro career.
The last USA boxer who was disqualified after not making weight was David Jackson in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Jeff Lacy will still fight Jermain Taylor
Three consecutive wins after the loss to the undefeated fighter Joe Calzaghe, Lacy will retire? Well that was he had announced a few days back abruptly dissolving a possible match against Jermain Taylor. But now, guess what, Taylor-Lacy is on! November 15 is the day. Whooow!
Before retiring I think Lacy should atleast put on a great fight; he and Taylor could make that happen. Put that icing on top of your boxing career and dish-off son. Leave a great reputation for a chance to hang those gloves on the hall of fame. Just get it on!

The Spider and The Sandman in the Octagon
It will again be a battle of lightheavyweights!
Anderson "The Spider" Silva will be facing knockout artist James "The Sandman" Irvin in Nevada for the UFC Fight Night main event. This fight will tests Silva's determination to fight in the 205-pound category after leaving the 185-pound middleweight. At middleweight in the UFC, Silva has barely been scratched, with only Dan Henderson and Travis Lutter being able to steal a round from him in their bouts before being submitted a round later. His other Octagon foes – Chris Leben, Rich Franklin (twice), and Nate Marquardt were all victims of TKOs or KOs. But against Irvin, he will be facing the hardest puncher he has ever been in with in his eight year career.
For the undercard fights, Brandon "The Truth" Vera will go against Reese "Riptide" Andy, again for lightheavyweight. Below are the other undercard fights:
- Hermes Franca vs. Frank Edgar (155 lbs)
- Cain Velasquez vs. Jake O'Brien (240 lbs)
- Anthony Johnson vs. Kevin Burns (170 lbs)
- Jesse Taylor vs. CB Dollaway (185 lbs)

Rampage Losses Title to Forrest
Rampage had strike Forrest very well but the latter countered with some kicks to the left leg. Jackson's left leg was hurt bad that it had affected his stance but Griffin didn't capitalized on that much. Though some believed, including me, that Rampage dominated the fight on the first and last three rounds (of 5 rounds) the decision was somewhat the reverse of what i expected. Well it has been decided and even Rampage Jackson accepted the defeat with humbleness. In the UFC anything could happen. Just get it on!

140 is Too Early For Pacquiao
The victory of Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao over David Diaz for the WBC Lightweight crown had rocked and shocked the world. There goes the pound-for-pound king!
Will the Pacman go up to 140 and face Ricky "Hitman" Hatton or will he stay on 135 and face the bests in the lightweight division?
Bob Arum claimed that Manny Pacquiao will defend his new WBC Lightweight belt this year and will eye a possible Hatton fight next year. Well, how good would that be?
I think Pacquiao is not yet completely ready enough to move up weights, not yet. There are also a lot of great boxers in the lightweight division that he can face and beat! Pacman is already the best pound-for-pound fighter in the boxing world; he must prove that he could reign in the 135 division before taking a step up. The great body-puncher Hatton will be there and he might wait. The display of superb fighting against Diaz had surely gain some attention in the current division he is in; maybe some of the fighters in 130 will move up also to chase and face him. In the 135 class, there is Joan Guzman, Joel Casamayor and the "Galaxy Warrior" Nate Campbell whom Pacquiao can face and have a good and exciting fight. The knockout artist Edwin Valero from 130 might also go up just for the Pacman. Anything will go for Manny; he is a great boxer, a fighter, a warrior! Anything will happen but I think it's too early for him to enter the 140 division. Savor the victorious moment first Manny, you've done it and I believe you can do it again.
Congratulations!

The TV, the Radio, and the Pacman!
Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao dethroned David Diaz via 9th round KO in their WBC Lightweight title fight. This would be Pacquiao's fourth weight division world title and that makes him the first asian to do so. I'm sure all Pacquiao's fans are happy and rejoicing for the victory of the great boxer. Pacquiao had again a display of a brilliant fight with quickness and power. The Pacman was much quicker and had the power as he outpunched and outboxed the naturally bigger David Diaz. The victory of Manny is also a victory for the entire Philippines.
Yesterday, me and my girlfriend agreed to buy a new TV for the display of the old one that we are using isn't already clear. So we went to the appliance department store of a mall near us and we did bought a slim-flat LCD-designed television. We had set it up last night and just by using antenna we had a clear display of the two local channels; GMA and ABS-CBN. "Wow, we can watch the boxing tommorow clearly!"
This morning we were waiting for GMA's feed of the Lethal Combination boxing event in Las Vegas hoping that it would start before I will go to work. To my dismay, as usual, this would be again a very delayed telecast of the event. I departed to work without even having a glance on any of the undercard fights. Arrgghh!
As I step out of the building I noticed the security guard busy listening to his transistor radio. I then knew from him that the broadcast is live, real time, about what's going on in Mandalay Bay. It was already Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo squaring-off for the interim version of Manny Pacquiao's WBC 130lb belt. Oh it was a good thing I brought my cellphone capable of FM radio transmission. "I will just listen to the fight when I'm in the office," i said to myself as I was on the way.
I arrived here in the office and setup my computer and afterwards opened the radio. Soto was disqualified?! Another dirty fight! I asked my office mate to turn on the Bravia (Cool!) and change the channel to Solar Sports. The feed is just about to start?! On the radio they're already preparing for the main event. Whatta!
So me and my colleagues decided to listen to the radio instead, back to basics mehn! Pacquiao was leading the scorecards until round 9 came. Pacquiao floored Diaz! Pacquiao floored Diaz! It's all over! Everybody's jumping and shouting here in the office. The Pacman did it again! Well I can say that the radio is still usefull. A big thanks also the Fightnews.com for their fast and near to real-time updates.
Grab a beer and shout, "Mabuhay si Pacquiao!"
Pacquiao Wins Again!

De La Hoya changes fight date!
Final Fight for the Golden Boy
One last fight! One, not two or more, for Oscar De La Hoya before hanging his gloves in the closet of fame and greatness. "This is my final year and I'm doing one fight," the Golden Boy said.
Well, I hope Oscar will win that last fight; but it's not winning that will matter most for that last battle it's his legacy. He is a boxing superstar. He is a great fighter. He is one of the best persona in the boxing industry.

Lethal Combination: Pacquiao vs Diaz
When two explosive world champions at the top of their game mix it up for the world title, it’s a “Lethal Combination!” Newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion MANNY PACQUIAO and WBC lightweight champion DAVID DIAZ will battle in a 12-round rumble with Diaz’s title at stake.
The Pacman, sometimes refered as the 'Mexicutioner', will step back on the ring to battle another great Mexican boxer after winning the controversial battle against Juan Manuel Marquez last March of this year. Pacquiao will go against David Diaz who also won his last fight on March against Ramon Montano.
Moving up to the lightweight division, Pacman claimed that this will be considered as one of his toughest fights especially that he will be fighting another champion. Considered as one of the best pound-for-pound fighter of today, Manny will be fighting not only for the glory of himself but also for the pride of the Filipino people.
On the other hand, David Diaz will try to end the Pacman's streak of beating some of the great Mexican boxers. Marquez tried but he failed but Diaz assured that he can.
It's a battle between two great boxers; both southpaw. It's a fight for the glory and pride of their country. Who will reign?
