2007 world champion Rau'shee Warren, considered a gold medal hope for the USA, lost 9-8 to Lee Ok-sung (Korea) in first round action on Tuesday in the 2008 Olympic Games at the Workers Indoor Arena in Beijing, China. The loss brings the overall record of the U.S. contingent to 3-3. On Saturday, USA middleweight Shawn Estrada topped Argentina's Ezequiel Maderna 10-2; on Sunday, USA welterweight Demetrius Andrade edged Kakahaber Jvania of Georgia 11-9 while USA light welterweight Javier Molina fell to Boris Georgiev 14-1; and on Monday, USA featherweight Raynell Williams topped Italy’s Alessio di Savino 9-1, while USA lightweight Sadam Ali was defeated by Romania's Popescu Georgian 20-5. The opening round wraps up on Wednesday with the last two USA boxers seeing action. Heavyweight Deontay Wilder faces Abdelaziz Toulibini and light flyweight Luis Yanez takes on Jose Kelvin de la Nieve of Spain.
