Pacquiao defeats De La Hoya

It's over and it has been done by the pound-for-pound king of boxing!

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao had shocked the whole world once again by retiring via TKO the legendary Oscar "Golden Boy" De La Hoya in the 8th round of their 'The Dream Match' event in Las Vegas. The Pacman and the Golden Boy both trained hard for the fight but there could only be one winner this time. Pacquiao had dominated all the first seven rounds until De La Hoya call it quits in the 8th.

Who will be the next for Manny? Will it be Ricky Hatton, or will Floyd Mayweather decide to go back in the ring?

Hatton retires Malignaggi in 11th

Hatton punished the outgunned Magilnaggi the entire night and the bout ended at :28 of round eleven when Malignaggi's trainer Buddy McGirt threw in the towel.

Other fight results:

Unbeaten middleweight James Kirkland (24-0, 21 KOs) continued his reign of terror wit an eighth round TKO of Andy Lee-conqueror Brian Vera (16-2, 10 KOs). Kirkland dropped Vera twice in round two and punished Vera until the eighth when he floored Vera again, prompting a referee's stoppage a few moments later. Time was 1:45.
-------------------------------------------------
Welterweight Matthew Hatton (35-4-1, 13 KOs) defeated Ben Tackie (29-11-1, 17 KOs) by ten round unanimous decision. Two judges had it 98-92 and the third 97-93. No knockdowns but Hatton looked quite impressive.

In a huge upset, WBO #1 junior featherweight Rey Bautista (26-2, 19 KOs) was soundly defeated by former Heriberto Ruiz (40-7-2, 23 KOs). Ruiz dropped Bautista in round three and Bautista was deducted a point for a low blow in the seventh. Scores were 80-70, 78-72 and 77-73. There were many head clashes throughout the bout, with Bautista being cut badly in the third.
-------------------------------------------------
Former WBC super featherweight champion Sirimongkol Singwancha (60-2, 34 KOs), now campaigning as a welterweight, won an eight round majority decision over Rogelio Castaneda (24-15-3, 8 KOs). Scores were 80-72, 78-74, 76-76.
-------------------------------------------------
Welterweight Danny Oscar Garcia (9-0, 7 KOs) dropped Adan Hernandez (14-6, 5 KOs) in round two, but had to go the route winning 59-52 on all cards. Both fighters were deducted points for low blows.
-------------------------------------------------
Lightweight Adrien Broner (4-0, 4 KOs) dropped Terrance Jett (4-12-2, 2 KOs) twice in round one, but had to go all the way to round six before getting a TKO. Time was :33.
-------------------------------------------------
Lightweight Hylon Williams (6-0, 1 KO) won a four rounder against Ramon Flores (2-3-1, 2 KOs) 40-36 across the board.

De la Hoya: 'It'll be a disaster if I don't KO Pacquiao'

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao is hoping to knock out the bigger Oscar de la Hoya. If the chance presents itself.

But not for de la Hoya. He expects to knock out Manny Pacquiao.

De la Hoya hinted in a media conference call on Monday (Tuesday morning, Manila time) that he is preparing for a quick ending - no more, no less.

"I will be extremely, extremely disappointed if this fight doesn't end in a knockout," de la Hoya said. "It will be a total disaster."

Just last week, de la Hoya couldn't be counted on to make a serious prediction as to how long the fight will last.

He sounded either sarcastic (De la Hoya's response to Freddie Roach's nine-round forecast? "We'll catch Pacquiao in five so we don't get to nine.") Or plain uninterested ("It may end in the seventh because that's my lucky number.").

Lesnar destroys a legend!

The much awaited fight is over, was it also over for a legend?

Brock Lesnar had defeated Randy Couture via stoppage in the 2nd round of their main event bout for the UFC 91 in Las Vegas.

The first round went out fine with changes of punches and takedowns. In the second round, Lesnar's fist caught the chin of Couture that made the latter fell on the canvas; Lesnar didn't miss the opporunity and followed Couture with fast strikes until the referee stopped the fight.

Calzaghe: Another legend killer!

To defeat the enemy you have to be like the enemy. That's what Joe Calzaghe did during his fight with the legendary Roy Jones, Jr and came out victorious and still undefeated. Calzaghe fought like the style of Jones.

Calzaghe retained his Light Heavyweight title beating down Jones via unanimous decision with three judges scoring the bout 118-109.

Jones dropped Calzaghe in round one with a glancing right hand and landed some clean shots in the second. But Calzaghe began to outwork Jones in the third and showed disdain for Jones' power by keeping his hands down between quick flurries.

Jones, Jr. announced that this will be his last fight for his career, or is it?

King Abraham defeats Marquez

Unbeaten IBF middleweight champion "King" Arthur Abraham (28-0, 23 KOs) punished then stopped mandatory challenger Raul "El Diamante" Marquez (41-4-1, 29 KOs) on Saturday night at the Jako Arena, Bamberg, Germany. After some close early rounds, Abraham began to connect with hard shots in round three. Marquez landed some good body shots in the fourth, but the champion inflicted damage at the end of the round and controlled the bout thereafter. After taking heavy bombardment to the body from Abraham in round six, Marquez quit on his stool.

"He was very tough," said Abraham. "He's a very good boxer, but we're also not bad. I don't understand it. He gave up too early. I am sad about that. I wanted to step on the gas from the sixth round, but unfortunately it didn't work. He disappointed the audience.....I'm ready to box against Felix Sturm!"

A disappointed Marquez stated, "I tried, but he was very fast and each shot was precise. When the cut happened, I simply couldn't continue. I could see I was going to lose. He's a strong champion and there was nothing I could do. It was also self-preservation. I have children, a family and I'm a commentator. I have a future." It was the eighth successful defense by Abraham, who may have suffered a rib injury in the bout.

Humberto Soto wins WBC 130lb belt!

Humberto "Zorrita" Soto (45-7-2, 28 KOs) won the WBC interim super featherweight championship with a tenth round TKO over Gamaliel "Platano" Díaz (23-8-2, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Coliseo Centenario in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. Soto dropped Diaz in round one and after Diaz was deducted two points for continuous holding by referee Lawrence Cole in round ten Diaz' corner decided not to send him out for round eleven, much to the disappointment of the crowd. This was for the same belt Soto failed to when when he was DQ'd against Francisco Lorenzo in June. The WBC refused to recognize Lorenzo and this time Soto was victorious.

Kimbo Slice fell in 14 seconds!

The legend of Kimbo Slice fell down just like the Wall of Jericho. The great brawler, Kimbo, was knock down by MMA veteran Seth "Silver" Petruzelli within 14 seconds. 14seconds?!

The phenomena of Kimbo had been shut down by a young MMA fighter Petruzelli. In the first round, Slice was knocked down by a straight punch to the mouth. Once down Petruzelli, using speed and power, attacked Kimbo with machine-gun punches until the ref stopped the fight. It's all over.

Until now I still can hardly believed what happened on that fight; but as they say, in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, anything can happen.

Mayorga KOd by Mosley

In a junior middleweight clash between former world champions, Shane Mosley (45-5, 38 KOs) scored an entertaining twelfth round KO over Ricardo Mayorga (28-7-1, 22 KOs) on Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Mayorga was more effective early, but Shane began to figure him out in round three. Round six was a big round for Mosley as Mayorga invited him to take a number of shots and Mosley obliged. The second half of the fight was more of an ugly brawl, but in the twelfth, Mosley exploded, flooring Mayorga twice to impressively end it. Time was 2:59. After the 11th round, the judges at ringside at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., had the fight scored 105-104 Mayorga (Pat Russell), 105-104 Mosley (Nelson Vasquez) and 107-102 Mosley (Tony Crebs).

Support for the Pacman

Hall-of-Fame promoter Bob Arum agrees with American trainer Freddie Roach that Manny Pacquiao may outnumber Oscar de la Hoya in terms of getting the support of Mexican fight fans. "Manny has endeared himself to the Mexican fight fans because he's been the active fighter, he's fought the Mexicans, he's conducted himself like a gentleman and he fights like a Mexican," said Arum. "Manny has tremendous, tremendous fans among the Mexicans. I think to some extent he may have more fans than Oscar does among Mexicans." Interviewed in the Sports Chat show over dzSR Sports Radio 918kHz last week, Roach said de la Hoya may get the surprise of his life in seeing Mexican fight fans rooting for his Filipino opponent come fight night.

(Regarding December 6th, Morel was referring to fighting Penalosa on the undercard of Oscar De La Hoya/Manny Pacquiao.)

Pacquiao-De La Hoya, the $100M fight

It's on!!!

The Golden Boy will fight the boxing's pound-for-pound king, the Pacman, in an event that could be the biggest boxing match this year.

It will be De La Hoya’s farewell fight and Pacquiao’s biggest ever.

The news:

Barring last-minute hitches, Oscar De La Hoya, boxing’s box office superstar in the past decade, will take on Manny Pacquiao, boxing’s hottest commodity today, in what promises to be a $100-million welterweight bout on Dec. 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“I have agreed in principle to accept the Dec. 6 fight against Oscar De La Hoya. This will be the toughest test in my boxing career because of the reach and height advantage of my esteemed opponent, aside from his great boxing skills,” Pacquiao said.

“This fight, however, will not be a walk in the park for Oscar De La Hoya. The boxing fans will see the same fire and intensity they have witnessed in my previous fights.”

Pacquiao, currently the World Boxing Council’s lightweight king, brimmed with confidence.

“I will frustrate the desire of Oscar De La Hoya to avenge the defeats of the great Mexican boxers who lost to me,” the Filipino ring idol said. “I am dedicating this forthcoming fight to my countrymen and all the boxing fans all over the world.”

“Don’t worry,” Pacquiao said with a laugh over the phone when asked what he thought of his opponent, an American of Mexican descent, who is also known as boxing’s “Golden Boy.”

At 5-foot-10 inches, De La Hoya stands four inches taller than Pacquiao and has a 6-inch reach advantage over the Filipino.

But at 29, Pacquiao is six years younger.

Money talks

The AP’s sources said De La Hoya’s long-stalled talks with Pacquiao were recently revived when the two sides found an acceptable way to split the possible $100 million in revenue from what’s certain to be boxing’s most lucrative fight since De La Hoya’s split-decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year.

The negotiations hit a snag last week.

The fighters’ camps argued over the split of the purse, with De La Hoya angling for 70 percent while Pacquiao pursued a 40-percent cut. The expected fight receipts would include a projected 2-million-plus pay-per-view buys, over which the two camps also reportedly wrangled.

How the impasse was resolved wasn’t immediately clear, but Inquirer sources said both camps had either agreed on a 65-35 deal, or on a 70-30 split, which De La Hoya had dangled to include a side deal that would sweeten the pot for the Filipino.

$15M for Pacquiao

It hasn’t been an easy match to make. Both boxers must make physical sacrifices for the 66.5-kilogram (147-pound) bout, with De La Hoya dropping down to welterweight for the first time in seven years while Pacquiao bulks up to the heaviest weight of his career by far.

At any rate, observers believe the fight could easily rival the blockbuster encounter between De La Hoya and Mayweather last year which reportedly grossed $120 million, including the pay-per-view buys which generated a record $2.4 million.

If the fight earns $100 million, Pacquiao stands to get his biggest paycheck ever—estimated at $15 million.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach also said a victory would open the floodgates for even bigger fights for the Filipino icon.

The two boxers earlier agreed to fight at a catch weight of 147 pounds and use eight-ounce gloves.

Size advantage

De La Hoya would be banking on his size but he will have to shed pounds and thus give up some strength to make the 147-pound weight. The 1992 Barcelona Olympic lightweight gold medalist fought heaviest at 160 lb against Felix Sturm for the WBO middleweight title.

The last time De La Hoya (39-5-0, 30 KOs) fought as a welterweight was in 2001. In his last fight, against Steve Forbes last May, he weighed in at 150 lb but entered the ring at 154 lb.

De La Hoya has won six titles in six different weight classes and has taken on practically every fighter who has donned the mythical best pound-for-pound crown.

However, he lost to the four biggest names he has encountered—Shane Mosley twice, Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins and Mayweather Jr.

Roach said speed and youth would be the weapons of Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs), who started his career at 106 lb. He has won four titles in four different categories, snatching the lightweight title from David Diaz last June.

Last fight

De La Hoya repeatedly has said he won’t fight again after this year.

After a proposed rematch with Mayweather in September was scuttled by Mayweather’s retirement, De La Hoya has struggled to find a suitable opponent for his final bout before turning his full attention to his burgeoning promotions company and other business interests.

De La Hoya now thinks he has his man in Pacquiao, widely considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter. Pacquiao hasn’t fought since stopping Diaz in his first fight as a lightweight.

Pacquiao will have to move up to welterweight to fight De La Hoya, a surprising weight surge for a fighter who began his career as a minimum weight boxer.

Hand speed

Roach has said his fighter won’t have trouble maintaining his peerless hand speed at that weight, since Pacquiao routinely puts on 4 kilos (10 pounds) or more in the 24 hours between weighing in for his bouts and actually stepping in the ring.

De La Hoya beat Forbes by unanimous decision in his most recent fight, but has won just three of his six bouts over the past five years.

He considered Miguel Cotto and Sergio Mora for his farewell fight, but realized the most lucrative challenge would be Pacquiao, the Filipino hero who has won eight straight fights since early 2005.

UFC 88: BREAKTHROUGH - Saturday, September 6, live on Pay-Per-View from Atlanta, GA.

A knockout king failed.

All those days after posting this article "Knockout king aims for 20th KO?" I always believed that the young and explosive Tyrone Brunson will achieve his 20th KO as he go against Mexican boxer Antonio Soriano for his 20th fight. I was wrong.

The 19-bout first round KO streak of middleweight Brunson (19-0-1, 19 KOs) came to an abrupt halt as he was held to a six round majority draw by Soriano (12-9-2) on Friday night at River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton. Soriano came on strong late in the bout with a brutal body attack. Judges saw the bout 56-56 twice and 58-56 Brunson. The majority draw decision was met with boos from the 800 in attendance, while Soriano received a huge round of applause for his performance. Brunson began his career with 19 consecutive first round KOs, eclipsing the mark set by world champion Edwin Valero.

No go for Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight.

The Pacman has said it; the possible fight between him and the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya is out.

Manny Pacquiao has decided to stay at lightweight and defend his WBC 135-lb crown after turning down an offer by Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) for a Dec. 6 fight in Las Vegas, lawyer Franklin Gacal said in a statement released early Thursday morning. "I have been informed that Oscar De La Hoya is firm with the 70-30 revenue sharing and won't budge in to the 60-40 split we have counter-offered. I find the offer of GBP unconscionable hence unacceptable. It would have been an honor to fight De La Hoya on his last fight capping a very illustrious boxing career but under the circumstances, the option left is to move on. I have already made specific instructions to my lawyer to start negotiating with Bob Arum for my next fight with any possible opponent at 135 lbs," said Pacquiao. Gacal said what Pacquiao wanted was a fair share of the mega fight and apparently, Oscar De La Hoya is making an offer that he knows is unacceptable," Gacal told fightnews.com.It is certain that Pacquiao will face Humberto Soto of Mexico sometime in November in Las Vegas.

UFC: BJ Penn vs GSP?

Georges "Rush" St-Pierre is still the undisputed UFC Welterweight Champion!

GSP is still on top but BJ Penn is saying something.

After the fight of GSP and Jon Fitch, and the former was announced as the winner, BJ Penn entered the Octagon and congratulated the "Rush" and eventually challenged him. A very good way to be in the spotlight.

Dana White, president of the UFC, commented on the possibility of current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre meeting current UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn. He claimed that both parties are interested and will work out the details soon. If the fight does take place, Penn would move up in weight to challenge St. Pierre and he will most likely not vacate his 155 pound championship. The fight could take place as early as December. White also said that multiple projects are in the works to hold UFC events worldwide, with the Philippines as the country most likely to hold an event.

UFC 87: GSP Retains Title

The undisputed UFC Welterweight Championship Georges "Rush" St-Pierre retains his belt as he had defeated Jon Fitch via unanimous decision (50-43, 50-44, 50-44).

The fight was completely dominated by GSP. On the first round St-Pierre had immediately knocked down Fitch with a big right hand. The second round was rather slow but both fighters had connected some punches. For the last three rounds, Fitch had some beating from GSP; jabs, elbows, punches and kicks went thru Fitch's defense.

The fight can be considered the best for Jon Fitch; though he lost, he had still displayed a heart of a fighter.

After the bout UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn entered the cage and congratulated St-Pierre on his victory and both St-Pierre and Penn expressed their interest in fighting one another, effectively setting up a fight between the UFC’s 155-pound and 170-pound champions which will likely take place at the UFC’s December 27th year-end event.

UFC 87: Lesnar wins over Herring

Brock Lesnar threw his first power punch and it hit the face of Heath Herring that knocked him down and made him roll over the canvas! The fight was so hot in the first round.

The next two rounds were rather slow but Lesnar dominated constantly keeping Herring on the canvas. Heath received pounding and knee strikes from Brock until the bout ended. All three judges score the bout 30-26, declaring Brock Lesnar the unanimous decision winner.

Brock Lesnar is on and ready to fight anybody!

OLYMPICS: U.S. boxer Russell will miss games

"It's a disappointing start for USA Boxing, which always seems to have be filled with its share of turmoil."
- Teddy Atlas (NBC boxing analyst)

Medal contending American bantamweight Gary Russell Jr. will miss the Olympics after collapsing Thursday night while trying to make weight.

At Friday morning's Olympic Boxing weigh-in, Russell was disqualified from the boxing tournament for being one pound over the 119-pound bantamweight limit . Russell, 20, from Capitol Heights, MD, was expected to make his Olympic debut on Tuesday, August 12 in the preliminary rounds of the bantamweight class.

U.S. coach Dan Campbell said Russell, a two-time national champion, was found unconscious and severely dehydrated early Friday morning by his roommate, light flyweight Luis Yanez.Medical personnel at the athletes' village rehydrated Russell, but he wasn't healthy enough to participate in Friday's weigh-in. Russell was resting Friday after failing in a dangerous final effort to reach the limit.

The team must move on without Russell, perhaps its most charismatic and exciting fighter. Ever since he was a 2-year-old prodigy putting on shadowboxing shows at fight clubs in Washington D.C., Russell has dreamed of wearing an Olympic medal even more than a pro career.

The last USA boxer who was disqualified after not making weight was David Jackson in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Hopkins-Pavlik bout is hot!

I'm still shocked that this fight is actually going to happen. The Ghost and the Executioner faces off!

I am guessing that Bernard Hopkins (48W-5L, 32KOs) can hand over the reigning world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (34W-0L, 30KOs) his first defeat ever if the 43 year-old Hopkins will rely more on his technical skills and his experience as an inside fighter. Pavlik, 26, perhaps the hardest puncher in the middleweight division today, doesn’t have much experience in fights that he’s had to win by the use of more technical skills.
The event will take place on October 18. The bout, which is being presented by Top Rank and Golden Boy, in association with Caesars Atlantic City, will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View.

There were good exchanges of punches. The bout was competitive for several rounds, but Larios eventually took command flooring Aguilar at the end on the sixth and finishing him in the seventh.

Clottey wins over Judah!

The fight was going well until the referee stopped the match in round 10. A bad cut was seen over Judah's right eye. The decision was based on the scorecards from which Joshua Clottey had led. The cut was ruled to be caused by a headbutt, although on replays it appeared to be caused by an uppercut.

The win had given Clottey (35W-3L, 21KOs) the vacant welterweight title formerly held by Antonio Margarito. The stats of the former two-division world champion, Zab Judah, went down to 36W-6L and 25KOs.

Clottey again had a brilliant display of boxing.

Undercard results from Las Vegas

Below is the undercard results of the Clottey-Judah fight:

Anthony Peterson (28-0, 19 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over former world champion Javier Jauregui (53-15-2, 36 KOs) in the lightweight category.

Super lightweight son-of-a-legend Omar Chavez (11-0-1, 9 KOs) knocked out Jeremy Marts (4-3, 3 KOs) at 2:44 in the first round. Marts was floored by Chavez three times.

Super welterweight Joseph Judah (3-0, 0 KOs) defeated Javier Sanchez (1-2, 0 KOs) via unanimous decision (39-37 on all three scorecards).

Unbeaten featherweight Miguel Angel Garcia (13-0, 11 KOs) stopped Jose Hernandez (11-7-1, 5 KOs) at :24 of round eight. Hernandez down in round two.

Heavyweight ex-champ Brewster returns!

He is going back to the ring. To fight. To brawl. To knockout his opponent.

Though his opponent is yet to be named, the former heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster (33W-4L, 29KOs) will be fighting on August 30 at the Cincinnati Gardens. This fighter is definitely worth watching.

Knockout king aims for 20th KO?

He had set record for the most first round knockouts. 19 KOs in 19 fights! Will he be going for KO number 20?

Knockout king Tyrone Brunson (19W-0L, 19KOs) is set to face Mexican boxer Antonio Soriano (12W-9L-1D, 9KOs) on August 15 in Edmonton Alberta at the River Cree Casino.

Watch out for the iron glove!

Hatton-Malignaggi is on!

November 22 is the date. The MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas is the venue. A brawl is the event!
Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton (44W-1L, 31KOs) will be facing Paul "Magic Man" Malignaggi (25W-1L, 5KOs) for the the junior welterweight unification title.

Donaire will flash his gloves again!

The Filipino Flash will be seen again!

IBF flyweight champion Nonito Donaire jr. (19W-1L, 12KOs) will most likely defend his crown against mandatory challenger Moruti Mthalane of South Africa on October 11 in Macau. In an interview with the daily morning show “Sports Chat” Wednesday morning, Donaire said he was informed by his manager Cameron Dunkin about the scheduled fight. Donaire would want to have a tune-up fight before the mandatory defense but was told by the IBF about their ruling of not allowing both champion and challenger of any other fight before a mandatory title bout.

Update: Thomas replaces Rollins in UFC 87

Jared Rollins withdrawing from his UFC 87 fight? What is he thinking? He is not even letting hi fans know the reason why. Beats me.

Ryan Thomas (11-1) will be replacing Rollins (6-4) in a middleweight bout against Ben Saunders (5-0-2) on the Aug. 9 card for UFC 87 in Minneapolis.

Castillo outboxed by Lujan

He worked out for it and in good shape. He had made the weights without any questions. He was determined. Yet he failed.
Former two-time WBC lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo (56-9-1, 48 KOs) was not successful for his debut in the welterweight division as he was outboxed by Sebastian Lujan (29-5-2, 20 KOs) on Wednesday night at the Sycuan Resort in El Cajon, California. Lujan won via unanimous decision.

Marquez faces Casamayor in the lightweight

Juan Manuel Marquez added weight to go up to the lightweight division. Is he chasing Manny Pacquiao and score a possible third fight? Or is he just going with the flow for greatness?

JMM will be facing Joel"El Cepillo" Casamayor, one of the hard-hitting and most talented fighter in the lightweight division today. Well, I can say that he is also one dirty fighter.

Marquez is coming off one of the best fights of 2008, when he lost a close 12-round split decision against current pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in March. On the other hand, Casamayor is coming off an explosive victory against Michael Katsidis via a 10th-round TKO last March 22. He had handed Katsidis his first loss after 44 fights.

The event is called the "Challenge" and it will be presented by Golden Boy Promotions, in association with Romanza Boxing. HBO Pay Per View will televise the event. It will take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on September 13 of this year. Both Marquez, 48-4-1 (35 KOs), and Casamayor, 36-3-1 (22 KOs) fight under the Golden Boy Promotions banner.

Jeff Lacy will still fight Jermain Taylor

Just what I thought. It's too early for Jeff Lacy to retire.

Three consecutive wins after the loss to the undefeated fighter Joe Calzaghe, Lacy will retire? Well that was he had announced a few days back abruptly dissolving a possible match against Jermain Taylor. But now, guess what, Taylor-Lacy is on! November 15 is the day. Whooow!

Before retiring I think Lacy should atleast put on a great fight; he and Taylor could make that happen. Put that icing on top of your boxing career and dish-off son. Leave a great reputation for a chance to hang those gloves on the hall of fame. Just get it on!

Margarito handed Cotto his first loss!

Former champion Antonio Margarito had given the previously unbeaten WBA champion Miguel Cotto his first defeat in 33 fights via 11th round KO. Margarito regained the world welterweight title with a brilliant display of heart and determination in their championship bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

It was a good fight as the two boxers had exchanged some power punches and stunning jabs. However, in the 11th round, Margarito battered Cotto and floored the latter twice before calling it over.

The victory has lifted Margarito's stat to 37W-5L 27KOs; while Miguel Cotto's record is now 32W-1L 26KOs.

Let's get it on!

Jeff Lacy saying it 'quits'?

Jeff Lacy, the former IBF Super Middleweight champion, who is expected to face his former Olympics teammate Jermain Taylor on the 15th of November this year says he is retiring and the fight will be dissolved. "I'm done. This business is dirty. That's all I have to say. This is a very dirty business. I would advise anyone who has kids not to ever let them fight in this business", Lacy confessed. He had just won a 10-rounds fight against Epifiano Mendoza and had a record of 24 wins, 1 loss and 17 KOs.

Concepcion Diffuses Banal by KO

Hot Filipino prospect AJ "Bazooka" Banal was floored by Rafael "El Torito" Concepcion of Panama in a bout for the WBA interim super flyweight title at the Cebu City Coliseum in Cebu City, Philippines and the latter came out victorious via 10th round KO. Banal, dropped to his knees in a corner and refused to stand up despite prodding from his corner until referee Raul Caiz, Jr. reached the count. The Bazooka dominated the fight but what was expected to be a lively night for him turned dark.

It will still be negotiated if a rematch will take place.

Buzz: Pacquiao vs De La Hoya!

If a Pacquiao-Hatton fight is worth a watch then how much more for a Pacquiao-De La Hoya battle? Definitely a big bang! It will be awesome!

The buzz about a De La Hoya-Pacquiao bout started when Freddie Roach revealed his eagerness in seeing his prized fighter battle De La Hoya straight on this December. The following day, it was hall-of-fame promoter Bob Arum’s turn to grace the show and confirmed there are talks ongoing about making the fight.

The Pacman and the Golden Boy will surely create a historical fight if this match will happen. Anything is possible.

Anderson "The Spider" Silva had dropped James "The Sandman" Irvin straight to the floor and followed by hard punches until it was all over; Silva won by TKO at 1:01 in the first round!

The win will definitely mean big for Silva for he is already in the 205lbs category; a lot of tough guys to face. The question will be, who is next for The Spider?

Anything will happen. Let's get it on!

The Spider and The Sandman in the Octagon

It will again be a battle of lightheavyweights!

Anderson "The Spider" Silva will be facing knockout artist James "The Sandman" Irvin in Nevada for the UFC Fight Night main event. This fight will tests Silva's determination to fight in the 205-pound category after leaving the 185-pound middleweight. At middleweight in the UFC, Silva has barely been scratched, with only Dan Henderson and Travis Lutter being able to steal a round from him in their bouts before being submitted a round later. His other Octagon foes – Chris Leben, Rich Franklin (twice), and Nate Marquardt were all victims of TKOs or KOs. But against Irvin, he will be facing the hardest puncher he has ever been in with in his eight year career.

For the undercard fights, Brandon "The Truth" Vera will go against Reese "Riptide" Andy, again for lightheavyweight. Below are the other undercard fights:

Klitschko Floors Thompson for Victory

IBF/IBO/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (51-3, 45 KOs) knocked down the tough, awkward Tony "The Tiger" Thompson (31-2, 19 KOs) to retain his belts on fight night at the Color Line Arena in Hamburg, Germany. The opening round is rather slow-paced but Klitschko began to connect with his punches in round two, a round in which both fighters were cut by a headbutt. Klitschko continued to headhunt while Thompson started having good results to the body in the fourth. In round seven, Klitschko seemed to be making Thompson break down. Thompson got up gingerly after both fighters got tangled up and went down to the canvas in the tenth. The vigorous and spirited Klitschko finally dropped Thompson for the count in the eleventh with a spectacular right hand. Time was 1:22. What's next for Klitschko? It will be a defense against Alexander Povetkin later this year.

Here are the results of the supporting bouts:

  • WBO #1 cruiserweight Johnathon Banks (20-0, 14 KOs) took a workmanlike majority decision over Vincenzo Rossitto (30-6-2, 22 KOs) to claim the IBO title belt.

  • European 154lb champion Zaurbek Baysangurov (19-0, 14 KOs) scored a seventh round stoppage of Ivan Gontsa (16-2-2).

Rampage Losses Title to Forrest

Forrest Griffin was knocked down by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's uppercut in the first round of their UFC Lightheavyweight championship bout but still he was able to hold on and came out the octagon victorious. Griifin had won via a unanimous decision with 48-46, 48-46 and 49-46 scores.

Rampage had strike Forrest very well but the latter countered with some kicks to the left leg. Jackson's left leg was hurt bad that it had affected his stance but Griffin didn't capitalized on that much. Though some believed, including me, that Rampage dominated the fight on the first and last three rounds (of 5 rounds) the decision was somewhat the reverse of what i expected. Well it has been decided and even Rampage Jackson accepted the defeat with humbleness. In the UFC anything could happen. Just get it on!

140 is Too Early For Pacquiao

He came, he fought, he will conquer!

The victory of Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao over David Diaz for the WBC Lightweight crown had rocked and shocked the world. There goes the pound-for-pound king!

Will the Pacman go up to 140 and face Ricky "Hitman" Hatton or will he stay on 135 and face the bests in the lightweight division?

Bob Arum claimed that Manny Pacquiao will defend his new WBC Lightweight belt this year and will eye a possible Hatton fight next year. Well, how good would that be?

I think Pacquiao is not yet completely ready enough to move up weights, not yet. There are also a lot of great boxers in the lightweight division that he can face and beat! Pacman is already the best pound-for-pound fighter in the boxing world; he must prove that he could reign in the 135 division before taking a step up. The great body-puncher Hatton will be there and he might wait. The display of superb fighting against Diaz had surely gain some attention in the current division he is in; maybe some of the fighters in 130 will move up also to chase and face him. In the 135 class, there is Joan Guzman, Joel Casamayor and the "Galaxy Warrior" Nate Campbell whom Pacquiao can face and have a good and exciting fight. The knockout artist Edwin Valero from 130 might also go up just for the Pacman. Anything will go for Manny; he is a great boxer, a fighter, a warrior! Anything will happen but I think it's too early for him to enter the 140 division. Savor the victorious moment first Manny, you've done it and I believe you can do it again.

Congratulations!

The TV, the Radio, and the Pacman!

The best pound-for-pound fighter has won again!

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao dethroned David Diaz via 9th round KO in their WBC Lightweight title fight. This would be Pacquiao's fourth weight division world title and that makes him the first asian to do so. I'm sure all Pacquiao's fans are happy and rejoicing for the victory of the great boxer. Pacquiao had again a display of a brilliant fight with quickness and power. The Pacman was much quicker and had the power as he outpunched and outboxed the naturally bigger David Diaz. The victory of Manny is also a victory for the entire Philippines.

Yesterday, me and my girlfriend agreed to buy a new TV for the display of the old one that we are using isn't already clear. So we went to the appliance department store of a mall near us and we did bought a slim-flat LCD-designed television. We had set it up last night and just by using antenna we had a clear display of the two local channels; GMA and ABS-CBN. "Wow, we can watch the boxing tommorow clearly!"

This morning we were waiting for GMA's feed of the Lethal Combination boxing event in Las Vegas hoping that it would start before I will go to work. To my dismay, as usual, this would be again a very delayed telecast of the event. I departed to work without even having a glance on any of the undercard fights. Arrgghh!

As I step out of the building I noticed the security guard busy listening to his transistor radio. I then knew from him that the broadcast is live, real time, about what's going on in Mandalay Bay. It was already Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo squaring-off for the interim version of Manny Pacquiao's WBC 130lb belt. Oh it was a good thing I brought my cellphone capable of FM radio transmission. "I will just listen to the fight when I'm in the office," i said to myself as I was on the way.

I arrived here in the office and setup my computer and afterwards opened the radio. Soto was disqualified?! Another dirty fight! I asked my office mate to turn on the Bravia (Cool!) and change the channel to Solar Sports. The feed is just about to start?! On the radio they're already preparing for the main event. Whatta!

So me and my colleagues decided to listen to the radio instead, back to basics mehn! Pacquiao was leading the scorecards until round 9 came. Pacquiao floored Diaz! Pacquiao floored Diaz! It's all over! Everybody's jumping and shouting here in the office. The Pacman did it again! Well I can say that the radio is still usefull. A big thanks also the Fightnews.com for their fast and near to real-time updates.

Grab a beer and shout, "Mabuhay si Pacquiao!"

Pacquiao Wins Again!

The legend of Manny Pacquiao continued to grow on Saturday night at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas as the Pacman added a world title in his fourth weight division. Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) dethroned WBC lightweight titleholder David Diaz (34-2-1, 17 KOs) via ninth round KO in a brilliant display. Pacquiao was much quicker as he outpunched and outboxed the naturally bigger man. Diaz was busted up by Pacman's sharp punching and it was target practice by round five. The gutsy Diaz kept coming, however, until Pacquiao floored him in the ninth to end it. Time was 2:24.

Lethal Combination: Early Results

  • Humberto Soto vs. Francisco Lorenzo
Super featherweight Humberto Soto (43-7-2, 27 KOs) punished Francisco Lorenzo (33-4, 14 KOs) for four rounds, but it was Lorenzo who claimed the interim version of Manny Pacquiao's WBC 130lb belt. In round four, Soto dropped Lorenzo twice, however after the second knockdown Soto clipped Lorenzo after he took a knee. With blood streaming from his face, Lorenzo remained on the deck. Referee Joe Cortez spent several minutes consulting with other officials before disqualifying Soto.

  • Monte Barrett vs. Tye Fields

Heavyweight Monte Barrett (34-6, 20 KOs) quickly chopped down 6'9 Tye Fields (40-2, 35 KOs) in just 57 seconds. It only took a few punches to send the big man crashing to the canvas. Referee Kenny Bayless wasted no time in waving it off.

  • Steven Luevano vs. Mario Santiago

In a surprisingly exciting fight that surpassed all expectations, WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano (35-1-1, 15 KOs) and Mario Santiago (19-1-1, 14 KOs) battled to a twelve round draw. Both fighters were down in round two and took turns rocking each other thereafter. Santiago slowly began getting the better of it only to have Luevano surge late. Scores were 117-111 Luevano, 115-113 Santiago and 114-114. Luevano retains his title.

  • Jesus Rojas vs. Alex Baba

Super bantamweight Jesus Rojas (12-0, 10 KOs) scored a punishing sixth round TKO over Alex Baba (26-13-1, 19 KOs). Rojas dropped Baba in round one, then battered the super game Baba until the bout was waved off by referee Jay Nady at 1:18.

  • Dennis Laurente vs. Steve Quinonez

Lightweight Dennis Laurente (29-3-5, 15 KOs) scored a fouth round TKO over Steve Quinonez (30-13-1, 10 KOs). Boxing superstar Oscar De La Hoya has changed his September 20 fight date and will instead fight on the 6th of December against an opponent to be named. The venue of the match will either be in Las Vegas or Los Angeles. Oscar's opponent supposed to be is Floyd Mayweather in a reprise of the most lucrative bout in boxing history, but Mayweather scuttled those plans by abruptly retiring.

Final Fight for the Golden Boy

One last fight! One, not two or more, for Oscar De La Hoya before hanging his gloves in the closet of fame and greatness. "This is my final year and I'm doing one fight," the Golden Boy said.

Well, I hope Oscar will win that last fight; but it's not winning that will matter most for that last battle it's his legacy. He is a boxing superstar. He is a great fighter. He is one of the best persona in the boxing industry.

Lethal Combination: Pacquiao vs Diaz

When two explosive world champions at the top of their game mix it up for the world title, it’s a “Lethal Combination!” Newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion MANNY PACQUIAO and WBC lightweight champion DAVID DIAZ will battle in a 12-round rumble with Diaz’s title at stake.

The Pacman, sometimes refered as the 'Mexicutioner', will step back on the ring to battle another great Mexican boxer after winning the controversial battle against Juan Manuel Marquez last March of this year. Pacquiao will go against David Diaz who also won his last fight on March against Ramon Montano.

Moving up to the lightweight division, Pacman claimed that this will be considered as one of his toughest fights especially that he will be fighting another champion. Considered as one of the best pound-for-pound fighter of today, Manny will be fighting not only for the glory of himself but also for the pride of the Filipino people.

On the other hand, David Diaz will try to end the Pacman's streak of beating some of the great Mexican boxers. Marquez tried but he failed but Diaz assured that he can.

It's a battle between two great boxers; both southpaw. It's a fight for the glory and pride of their country. Who will reign?
