The fight was going well until the referee stopped the match in round 10. A bad cut was seen over Judah's right eye. The decision was based on the scorecards from which Joshua Clottey had led. The cut was ruled to be caused by a headbutt, although on replays it appeared to be caused by an uppercut.
The win had given Clottey (35W-3L, 21KOs) the vacant welterweight title formerly held by Antonio Margarito. The stats of the former two-division world champion, Zab Judah, went down to 36W-6L and 25KOs.
Clottey again had a brilliant display of boxing.
