UFC 111: GSP still victorious, Carwin still undefeated

He is truly a complete MMA fighter as he had walked out of UFC 111 victorious once again. Georges St-Pierre was on top of his game (though he apologized to the fans for such performance) as he had scored a lopsided victory over Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy. We all know that GSP is a very skilled and talented fighter as he had always put Hardy on the ground, controlled the temp and shoot some submission moves.

On the other hand, Shane Carwin claimed the UFC interim heavyweight championship with a dramatic knockout of former champion Frank Mir at 3:48 of the opening stanza. The beginning of the end came as Carwin pinned Mir against the cage and reigned down a series of blows that sent Mir crumbling to the canvas. Carwin flattened Mir out and landed several more unanswered shots before the referee stepped in to save the Las Vegan from further damage.

With a 12-0 record, Carwin will likely meet heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in July for a unification bout.

The Gold ‘Rush’: Who Will challenge St-Pierre?

The queue to challenge UFC welterweight champion Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre isn’t so much of an organized line as it is a communal gathering. There is little order, no hierarchy, and only a few dwellers are forthcoming. Aside from a brave few, nobody seems to be in any ‘Rush’ to fight one of the most dominant champions in mixed martial arts today.

Rest assured, though, there are challengers and tests in the pipeline for St-Pierre. Only, unlike other champions’ pool of contenders, St-Pierre’s resembles more of a wasteland than a dish of fresh meat. In amongst a couple of brash newcomers from Britain are the resurrected zombies of previous conquests.

For a champion less disciplined and determined than St-Pierre, his selection of welterweight challengers could be problematic. Having beaten most of the leading welterweights in the world already, it would be easy for St-Pierre to rest on his laurels, fight once a year and fluctuate between weight divisions in pursuit of predicament.

As it is, St-Pierre couldn’t be happier at the summit of the competitive 170-pound weight class. While the Montreal mauler would appear to be a level or two above the rest of the swarming sharks, St-Pierre isn’t worried about future tests. Read more...

UFC: BJ Penn vs GSP?

Georges "Rush" St-Pierre is still the undisputed UFC Welterweight Champion!

GSP is still on top but BJ Penn is saying something.

After the fight of GSP and Jon Fitch, and the former was announced as the winner, BJ Penn entered the Octagon and congratulated the "Rush" and eventually challenged him. A very good way to be in the spotlight.

Dana White, president of the UFC, commented on the possibility of current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre meeting current UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn. He claimed that both parties are interested and will work out the details soon. If the fight does take place, Penn would move up in weight to challenge St. Pierre and he will most likely not vacate his 155 pound championship. The fight could take place as early as December. White also said that multiple projects are in the works to hold UFC events worldwide, with the Philippines as the country most likely to hold an event.

UFC 87: GSP Retains Title

The undisputed UFC Welterweight Championship Georges "Rush" St-Pierre retains his belt as he had defeated Jon Fitch via unanimous decision (50-43, 50-44, 50-44).

The fight was completely dominated by GSP. On the first round St-Pierre had immediately knocked down Fitch with a big right hand. The second round was rather slow but both fighters had connected some punches. For the last three rounds, Fitch had some beating from GSP; jabs, elbows, punches and kicks went thru Fitch's defense.

The fight can be considered the best for Jon Fitch; though he lost, he had still displayed a heart of a fighter.

After the bout UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn entered the cage and congratulated St-Pierre on his victory and both St-Pierre and Penn expressed their interest in fighting one another, effectively setting up a fight between the UFC’s 155-pound and 170-pound champions which will likely take place at the UFC’s December 27th year-end event.
