Hopkins defeats Jones Jr

It was a sweet revenge for the fallen as he had risen to dominate.

17 years after their first fight, ring legend Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) evened the score against 41-year-old fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. (54-7, 40 KOs) winning a foul-filled twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night in a light heavyweight bout at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The first five rounds were measured, tactical and sometimes dirty, but things really heated up in round six after Hopkins went down from a seemingly light rabbit punch, then furiously went after Jones, continuing to fight even after the bell and the fighters had to be restrained by security. After a Hopkins rabbit punch in round eight, Jones responded with a rabbit punch that sent Hopkins to the canvas again. Hopkins went down for a third time from a borderline low blow in round ten. Action stopped in the eleventh so the ring doctor could look at a cut Jones sustained from a headbutt, ruled unintentional. A slow twelfth round brought boos from the crowd. In the end, Hopkins prevailed 117-110, 117-110, 118-109.

I never expected this event will ever happen, but it's now on and for real!

The two legendary boxers and future Hall of Famers will finally collide for their much-anticipated and long-waited rematch; Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins and Roy "The Terminator" Jones Jr. will face each other again after 17 years. The event is called The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II.

Boxing fans had been wanting this rematch to happen after the two boxers first fight on May 1993 when Jones Jr. defeated Hopkins via unanimous decision for the vacant IBF Middleweight title.

The sure-fire bout will happen on April 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. This for for the ultimate bragging rights to leave no doubts to who's the better fighter. Hopkins (50-5-1, 32 KOs) and Jones (54-6, 40 KOs) are considered best fighters in boxing history.

Though I was not able to watch (live) their first meeting I can't wait to see this fight.

Danny Green: Accept the offer Bernard

After the controversial win over Roy Jones, Jr., former WBA light heavyweight champion and current IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green is doing his best to make a fight with Bernard Hopkins happen by taking a smaller purse than the future Hall of Famer. Green originally offered a 50-50 split of a multi million dollar purse with Hopkins and this offer was accepted but later the American had requested a 60-40 split in his favour after it was revealed HBO would televise the fight on prime time USA television. Green said, “When I left the States two weeks ago we had an agreement that whatever goes into the pot we were 50-50 which is what we did with Roy Jones. And after the momentum of the Roy Jones fight, I could fight SpongeBob SquarePants and still make good money. But it’s not about the money for me. It’s about continuing to try to build a legacy and knocking out two future hall-of-fame fighters. Knocking out two legends, bringing two legends to my backyard and helping the sport of boxing. I spoke to Bernard again on Christmas Eve and then I had the Sydney to Hobart, so I haven’t spoken to him for the past week. I’ve got one more phone call to make to him to try to make this happen. I’m confident that he’s going to take this deal. He’s squabbling over making millions. Let’s just make it happen and get it on!”

Kelly Pavlik vs Bernard Hopkins

Can the four-time world champion, the Executioner, Bernard Hopkins (48W-5L, 32KOs) avenge a split-decision loss from Joe Calzaghe as he fight the undefeated World Middleweight Champion Kelly Pavlik (34W-0L, 30KOs) on the 18th of October at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall?

Or will the champion retain his title?

I'm still shocked that this fight is actually going to happen. The Ghost and the Executioner faces off!

I am guessing that Bernard Hopkins (48W-5L, 32KOs) can hand over the reigning world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (34W-0L, 30KOs) his first defeat ever if the 43 year-old Hopkins will rely more on his technical skills and his experience as an inside fighter. Pavlik, 26, perhaps the hardest puncher in the middleweight division today, doesn’t have much experience in fights that he’s had to win by the use of more technical skills.

The event will take place on October 18. The bout, which is being presented by Top Rank and Golden Boy, in association with Caesars Atlantic City, will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
