Jr middleweight “Son of the Legend” Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (40-0-1, 30 KOs) destroyed Jason LeHoullier (22-2-1, 8 KOs) in less than a round on Saturday night at the El Palenque Del Recinto Ferial, Tepic, Mexico. Chavez dropped LeHoullier with a left hook and got the stoppage with his follow up barrage. Time was 2:43. A fight with John Duddy was mentioned for Chavez next.
Bantamweight Alex Valdez (22-3-2, 15 KOs) scored an upset third round KO over reigning WBO champion Fernando Montiel (39-3-1, 29 KOs). Montiel dropped Valdez in round one, but Valdez floored Montiel in round two. Montiel was cut over the left eye by a punch in round one that later caused the bout to be stopped before the beginning of the fourth round. The fight was originally declared a technical draw, but changed to a KO for Valdez. Montiel’s title was not on the line.
In a clash for the undisputed WBO mini flyweight championship, WBO champion Donnie Nietes, (24-1-3, 14 KOs) won a controversial twelve round split decision over interim champion Manuel Vargas (26-3-1, 11 KOs). Vargas pressured Nietes the entire fight and was ahead 116-112 on one card, however Nietes prevailed 118-110, 116-110 on the other two cards.
Super flyweight Z Gorres (29-2-2, 15 KOs) won by TKO when Cruz Carbajal (29-18-2, 16 KOs) couldn’t come out for round six due to a dislocated arm.
Former two-time WBC lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo (60-9-1, 59 KOs) scored a second round KO over veteran Carlos Urias (41-22, 30 KOs) in a welterweight bout.
Unbeaten super featherweight Brandon Rios (21-0-1, 14 KOs)scored a second round KO over Daniel Valenzuela (3-7).
